The 4th of July is right around the corner, and it’s time to party! It will be hot, hot, hot in July, so if you have a pool, invite over your crew to beat the heat.

Check out these 5 tips for throwing your best pool party yet!

1. Decorate with Red, White, and Blue

Decorating for Independence Day is a snap – it’s all about the red, white, and blue, and the American flag. On theme napkins, plates, ribbons and cups are also great ways to add a bit of patriotic flair without costing too much. Check your grocery store or local party store for some cute designs or up-cycle from what you have at home. Here are some other crafty ideas:

Spray paint Mason jars in red, white or blue. Tie on ribbons from a craft store (stars, stripes and polka dots work well) then fill with fresh cut flowers for striking centerpieces.

Dip pretzel rods in white chocolate. Decorate with red and blue sprinkles then place them in a vase or other tall container, and they double as decorations and snacks. This is also a fun project for kids that could be done during the party to keep little hands busy.

Fill patriotic candy jars. Simple glass vases filled with red, white and blue candies are always a hit. Add a few ribbons, a colorful pinwheel or small flag and you have a great treat as well as a centerpiece option.

2. Summer Drinks

Make sure your guests stay hydrated all day with a small inflatable pool filled with ice, beer, natural soda, healthy kids’ drinks and lots of water! With temperatures at their peak, it’s good to have lots of water available. If you really want to be over the top, set up a bar and serve a signature Independence Day cocktail. 3. Amazing Food

4. Games and Music to Keep the Party Going

Some people may be content to float, eat, and chat with other guests, but if you really want a party to remember, add some fun pool games!

Marco Polo, Chicken, and Limbo, are all easy to get started with little to no prep work.

Buy or borrow a cornhole set, ping pong table, or volleyball net for those that really like to get into outdoor competitive sports.

A round of American themed party tunes are also a must! Here’s a few song titles to get your playlist going:

  • Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus
  • Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen
  • God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood
  • America the Beautiful by Ray Charles
  • American Girl by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
  • Surfin’ USA by The Beach Boys

5. Floaties, Noodles, and Towels, Oh My!

Make your pool extra inviting by throwing in some fun floaties and noodles. Your guests will love floating along while sipping on their favorite summer drink! Also, make sure to provide extra towels for guests that forgot, and create a sunscreen station with a variety of sunscreens and some fun party store sunglasses and flip-flops. No one wants their guests to go home with a nasty sunburn.
